Christmas a Hamburger — lyrics

Christmas a Hamburger je desetiskladbové album Antonína Deliše a Original Book Soundtrack ke stejnojmenné knize Christmas a Hamburger.

Začíná a končí jménem ZAARE a mezi těmito dvěma body prochází vztahem, který se odehrává v zimním městě, mezi modrým světlem telefonu, nádražími, tramvajovými dráty, sněhem, překladačem a dvěma lidmi, kteří si někdy rozumějí právě ve chvíli, kdy přestanou rozumět slovům.

Příběh knihy a další informace: Christmas a Hamburger.

2 · TOO DARK FOR YOU

Too dark for you
Too dark for you
Too dark for you
Too dark
Too dark
Too dark
Too dark
Dark, dark

Black apartment, gold against the wall
Your shadow in the doorway like you might not stay long
Cold blue phone lights, static in the room
You said I make you feel something, then disappear too soon

Late night silence, heavy in my chest
Everybody loves the atmosphere until it gets too real
You liked the smoke, you liked the view
You liked the way I looked at you
But when the silence started talking, you got scared of the truth

Too dark for you, too dark for you
You loved the lights but not the truth
Too dark for you, too dark to stay
You touched my world then ran away
Too dark for you, too dark for you
Black apartment, gold and blue
Too dark for you, too dark for you
You wanted beauty, not something true

Stay in the dark
Stay in the dark with me
Stay in the dark
Stay in the dark with me
Too dark
Too dark
Too dark for you

Story still glowing, 2:45
Everybody watching, no one really inside
Cold Korean soju, half drunk on the floor
Funny how the loudest people never know you at all

You said I felt cinematic, you loved the way I moved
But every time the room got honest, you found a way to lose
You loved the nights, the black and gold
But not the parts I couldn’t control
And when the room got honest, you turned invisible

Too dark for you, too dark for you
You loved the lights but not the truth
Too dark for you, too dark to stay
You touched my world then ran away
Too dark for you, too dark for you
Black apartment, gold and blue
Too dark for you, too dark for you
You wanted beauty, not something true

Wide awake again, phone light on my skin like an old bad habit
Everybody fades, everybody moves
But the black and gold still looks good on me
Still awake for you
Still inside this room
Still too dark for you

Too dark for you, too dark for you
You loved the lights but not the truth
Too dark for you, too dark to stay
You touched my world then ran away
Too dark for you, too dark for you
Stay, stay, stay, stay inside the blue
Too dark for you
But never too dark for me and you

Stay in the dark
Stay in the dark with me
Stay in the dark
Stay in the dark with me
Too dark
Too dark
Too dark for you

3 · AFTER YOU LEFT

After you left
After you left
After you left
The room stayed warm

Your jacket still hanging near the bedroom door
Little traces of you across the floor
Blue light in the kitchen seeping through the blinds
I still hear your voice at the back of my mind

Nothing really happened, nothing really broke
You just slowly disappeared like cigarette smoke

After you left, the room stayed warm
I kept your shadow inside my arms
After you left, nothing felt wrong
That’s what made it hurt all along

Stay a little longer, stay inside the blue
Even after leaving, I still feel you
2:45 Again, no sleep, no sound
I touch the empty space you used to calm down
Phone screen glowing softly, silver on my skin
Everybody leaves eventually, but you still live here

Nothing dramatic, no screaming goodbye
Just two quiet people running out of time

After you left, the room stayed warm
I kept your shadow inside my arms
After you left, nothing felt wrong
That’s what made it hurt all along

Maybe love dies slowly, maybe that’s the worst
Not a crash or fire, just silence first
Your reflection fading into morning blue
Still feels like somebody
Still feels like you

After you left, the room stayed warm
I still wake up reaching for your arms
After you left, the city moved on
But part of you stays inside this song

After you left
After you left
The room stayed warm

4 · SOMEHOW WE DO

Somehow we do
Somehow we do
Even without words
I still reach for you

Snow outside the window
Blue light on your face
You say something softly
I wish I knew the phrase

Your hands inside your pockets
Cold air in the street
Two strangers in one city
Walking to the same beat

You laugh when I get nervous
I talk too much again
You answer with your silence
And somehow I understand

You speak in ways I don’t understand
I say too much, you just take my hand
Different words, different points of view
Still somehow, I still feel you

Somehow we do
Somehow we do
Even without words
I still reach for you

Phone translator glowing
Between your hands and mine
Tiny broken sentences
Trying to survive

Outside, all the Christmas lights
Blur into the rain
Funny how a foreign voice
Can still say my name

Maybe love sounds different
In every human mouth
But your eyes keep answering
Everything I doubt

You speak in ways I don’t understand
I say too much, you just take my hand
Different words, different points of view
Still somehow, I still feel you

Somehow we do
Somehow we do
Even without words
I still reach for you

No perfect translation
No miracle solution
Just your breath beside me
Cutting through the confusion

The city keeps on moving
Neons snow and blue
Everybody talks too loudly
But I still hear you

You speak in ways I don’t understand
I lose my words, you hold my hand
Different hearts, different lives we knew
Still somehow, I still find you

Somehow we do
Somehow we do
Even without words
I still belong to you

Somehow we do
Somehow we stay
Snow falling slowly
Outside the arcade

5 · PRETTY BOY

Pretty boy
Pretty boy
Your mouth moves slow
I still don’t know

Snow falling on the tram lines
Blue light on your face
You say something softly
I lose it in the space

Phone translator glowing
Between your hands and mine
Every word gets colder
Every single time

We sit so close together
Still worlds apart somehow
I used to hear your heartbeat
Now I just hear sound

Pretty boy, say it slow
I don’t understand anymore
Pretty boy, don’t let go
The closer we get, the less I know

Pretty boy, beautiful confusion
Every conversation ends in translation
Pretty boy, stay here tonight
Even if the words don’t survive

Ooh-ooh, lost in translation
Ooh-ooh, inside your eyes

Christmas lights reflecting
Silver in the rain
You laugh when I get frustrated
Then touch my hand again

Maybe love is stupid
Maybe that is true
Two lonely people trying
To invent something new

I know your breathing pattern
I know the way you move
But suddenly your language
Feels impossible to move through

Pretty boy, say it slow
I don’t understand anymore
Pretty boy, don’t let go
The closer we get, the less I know

Pretty boy, beautiful confusion
Every conversation ends in translation
Pretty boy, stay here tonight
Even if the words don’t survive

Maybe we were never supposed to speak the same
Maybe love is just two people trying anyway
Your head against my chest
No language, only breath
For one silent moment
Everything makes sense

Pretty boy, stay with me
Even if it hurts to speak
Pretty boy, close your eyes
Maybe we don’t need subtitles tonight

Pretty boy, no translation
Just your heartbeat in the dark vibration
Pretty boy, don’t say goodbye
Stay beside me
While the city lights die

Pretty boy
Pretty boy
I still feel you
Without the words

6 · SNOW IN YOUR HAIR

Snow in your hair
Snow in your hair
The whole city disappeared when you stood there

Cold station platform
Silver in the air
You say something soft
Leave snow caught in your hair

Phone translator glowing
Blue against your skin
Tiny broken sentences
Trying to let me in

I laugh when I get nervous
You look down at your shoes
Two people in one winter
With too much left to lose

Then something slowly changed
The silence opened wide
And for a little moment
The distance disappeared

For one night, I understood you
Every word like falling snow
No translation, no fear between us
Just your voice, soft and slow

For one night, the whole world opened
Like Christmas lights inside the cold
Snow in your hair
Snow in your hair
I finally heard you there

Ooh-ooh, no subtitles tonight
Ooh-ooh, everything felt right

Walking through December
Neon gold and blue
Funny how the whole world changes
Standing next to you

Your laughter in the snowfall
Your hand inside my coat
For the first time in forever
Nothing felt remote

Outside, all the tram wires
Glowing in the dark
The city felt enormous
But suddenly less hard

Maybe love is fragile
Maybe magic leaves
But something in your voice tonight
Still reaches me

For one night, I understood you
Every word like falling snow
No translation, no fear between us
Just your voice, soft and slow

For one night, the whole world opened
Like Christmas lights inside the cold
Snow in your hair
Snow in your hair
I finally heard you there

Maybe nothing changed forever
Maybe morning breaks the spell
Maybe love begins exactly
Where we learn each other well

I don’t need perfect language
I don’t need to know it all
Just stay close beside me
While the winter falls

For one night, I understood you
No distance left between the two
No translation, no fear between us
Only warmth breaking through

For one night, the whole world softened
Like gold lights inside the snow
Snow in your hair
Snow in your hair
I didn’t feel alone anymore

Snow in your hair
Snow in your hair
The city glowing white everywhere

7 · SOMETHING HAPPENED TO MY WORDS

Something happened to my words
Something happened to my words
I still hear you
I just can’t return them

Christmas lights above us
Silver on the street
You ask me something simple
I forgot how to speak

Phone screen full of language
None of it feels mine
Every sentence breaking
Before it leaves my mind

Your face inside the station lights
Blurring gold and blue
I know exactly what I feel
I just can’t give it to you

My mouth keeps moving slowly
But something’s missing now
I hear myself like somebody else
From very far away somehow

Something happened to my words
They don’t sound like me tonight
Every feeling turns to static
Every sentence falls behind

You still hold my shaking hands
Like you understand the hurt
I’m still here inside myself
Something happened to my words

Can you hear me still
Even like this?

Tiny sounds and fragments
Falling through my teeth
You look at me so carefully
Like language isn’t speech

I try to say „I love you“
It comes out strange and wrong
But you stay beside me listening
Like you knew it all along

Outside on the tram
Wires glow against the snow
Inside me something shatters
Softly, quietly, slow

I can feel the panic rising
Behind my tired smile
Like somebody switched the keys inside me
For a different life

Something happened to my words
They don’t sound like home tonight
Every memory feels distant
Every sentence out of time

You still touch my freezing face
Like you’re searching through the dark
Trying to translate the silence
Trying to find my heart

Maybe love begins exactly
Where language disappears
Where somebody stays beside you
Inside the strangest fears

Your hand inside my jacket
Snow melting in my hair
I lose the world around me
But somehow you stay there

Something happened to my words
Still you wait for me to speak
Like you already understand me
Underneath the broken things

No translation
No perfection
Just your body next to mine

Something happened to my words
But you still hear me right

Something happened to my words
Something happened to my words
You still look at me
Like I never disappear

8 · SAY IT SOFTLY

Say it softly
Say it slow
I still hear you even when I don’t know

Your hands wrapped ‚round the coffee
Snow melting on your coat
You wait through every silence
Like it matters that I talk

The city moves around us
Neon silver rain
Everybody speaks so quickly
My mouth can’t catch the shape

I lose words in the middle
I drift somewhere unknown
But you stay there beside me
Like I’m not difficult to hold

You never force the language
You never make me try
You just sit there listening
Like broken things survive

Say it softly, say it twice
I’m not broken
I just speak different tonight

Say it softly, stay with me
I can’t say it right
But I still mean everything

Your eyes keep understanding
Before the words begin
Say it softly
And I’ll let you in

Ooh, slowly
Ooh, stay with me slowly

Tiny sounds between us
Half English, half dream
Your fingers drawing circles
Across my freezing sleeves

I know I sound like somebody
You never knew before
But every time you answer
I’m less afraid than before

Outside the station window
The whole world turns to white
Inside your quiet patience
Something in me survives

Maybe love is listening
Long after language ends
Maybe understanding
Starts where translation bends

Say it softly, say it twice
I’m not broken
I just speak different tonight

Say it softly, stay with me
I can’t say it right
But I still mean everything

Your eyes keep understanding
Before the words begin
Say it softly
And I’ll let you in

Don’t turn me into normal
Don’t pull me back before
Maybe this strange new language
Is still completely yours

Your hand inside my jacket
Your heartbeat next to mine
For one quiet moment
I don’t need to translate my mind

Say it softly, stay tonight
The whole world disappears
When you hold me right

Say it softly, close to me
No perfect words
No perfect symmetry

You still hear the person
Hidden underneath
Say it softly
Like you still believe in me

Say it softly
Say it slow
I still hear you even when I don’t know

9 · CHRISTMAS & HAMBURGER

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
Strange little names nobody else would understand

Snow caught in your eyelashes
Blue light in the station glass
You look at me so carefully
Like you’re scared this won’t last

My words still come out sideways
Half dream and half unknown
But your hands never hesitate
When they reach for mine in the cold

Everybody else looks through me
Like I disappeared somewhere
But you still wait beside me
Like I’m completely there

Maybe love is smaller
Than movies made it seem
Just two people slowly learning
How to hear each other breathe

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
You came back from somewhere far away
You still understand me
Even when I break apart
Even when the language changes shape

No translation, no performance
Just your heartbeat underneath my skin

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
Let the whole world disappear again

Stay close to me
Like winter never leaves

Coffee cups between us
Fog against the train
You repeat my strange new sentences
Like they still make sense

Outside, all the tram wires glow
In silver-white
Inside, your quiet listening
I slowly come back to life

I know I’ll never sound again
Exactly like before
But maybe love was never about
Being understood completely at all

You learn my pauses
You learn my fear
You learn the silence nobody else could hear

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
You came back from somewhere far away
You still understand me
Even when I disappear
Even when the words refuse to stay

No translation, no perfection
Just your warmth against the freezing dark

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
You still know exactly who I am

Maybe this is what a miracle is
Not magic, not snow
Not suddenly becoming whole again
Just somebody staying long enough
To learn your broken language softly

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
Two lost people glowing in the cold

No more hiding, no more acting
No more trying to survive alone
You still hold me like the first night
Underneath the neon winter sky

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
And somehow we’re still alive

You’re my Hamburger
I’m your Christmas
Nobody else has to understand

Christmas a Hamburger

TOO DARK FOR YOU ten svět staví jako něco přitažlivého i nebezpečného.

V AFTER YOU LEFT už není žádný velký rozchod.

A právě tady se význam celého alba mění.

SAY IT SOFTLY už nehledá dokonalý překlad.

„You’re my Hamburger / I’m your Christmas“ není potřeba vysvětlovat lidem zvenčí. Smysl mají právě proto, že vznikly uvnitř vztahu.

Album se tak postupně vzdaluje představě, že blízkost vzniká tehdy, když dva lidé všechno dokonale vysvětlí.

Naopak.

Možná vzniká právě tehdy, když jeden člověk zjistí, kde druhý přestává být snadno přeložitelný — a přesto zůstane.

Proto album rámují ZAARE a ZAARE LULLABY.

Nobody else has to understand.
